Have you tried out my shawl percentage calculator? (It's in the sidebar on my blog). Weigh your remaining yarn and compare the percentage of your yarn you have left to the percentage of shawl that needs to be knit.

yeah, i'm with the go-for-it crowd; if i got halfway through and saw it wouldn't be enough, i could improvise from there, and i'm sure you could too!! good luck!
